What is the LCMS Mission?
When the LCMS sends a missionary into a new country we have a seventy-five year commitment to that country. Within those seventy five years, or prayerfully more, the international mission focuses on their three main pillars: planting Lutheran churches, spreading the Gospel, and showing mercy.
Planting Lutheran churches is at the center. By planting churches, the Gospel can be spread and mercy can be shown to those communities. And when mercy is shown and the Gospel is spread, there are people within that community who can plant more churches. Then the cycle begins.
Planting Lutheran churches is incredibly important because that is where we want to point people, the hurting, the broken and the lost. That is where the Word and Sacrament are administered to God’s people. The Word of God and Lord’s Supper are central to the mission.
“The LCMS Office of International Mission recruits, trains, sends and cares for our missionaries, human care workers and international educators.”- International Mission, The Lutheran Church– Missouri Synod
